The date itself is still said to be tentative, as it reportedly hinges on the developer not finding any new problems during its ongoing review of the game's latest public test session, which took place on September 28. RELATED: More Far Cry 7 Evidence Appears OnlineĪnd while Ubisoft has yet to follow up on the news of XDefiant's indefinite delay, leaker el_bobberto has now taken to Twitter to claim that the company is aiming to release the FPS on October 17. When exactly that's meant happen is still unclear, especially after the shooter failed the Xbox and PlayStation certification process in the first half of September. Despite that change, the game still promises to deliver thrilling multiplayer action combining elements from a wide variety of Tom Clancy's franchises, including Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division. However, fans have been speculating that a potential release window could be in late 2021 or early 2022 based on previous Ubisoft release patterns. Will XDefiant suffer the same fate? Time will tell. Cinderella has only one joy in life – her longtime secret friendship with the highborn Prince Sebastian (Jordan Dobson, living up to the promise he demonstrated last fall with the lovely, show-stealing performance of “Shilo” in A Beautiful Noise). Of course she has reason to be moody, what with those Mean Girls stepsisters (Morgan Higgins and Sami Gayle) and a deliciously villainous stepmother (the always crowd-pleasing Carolee Carmello). Yes, compared to the bright, brilliantly hued finery of the other townfolk, Cinderella looks an outlier, but truth be told there are likely to be badder looking kids in every night’s audience. Cinderella isn’t so much bad as peevish, a vaguely punky teen who’s alternately pouty and crabby, sporting leather-esque tunics and studded purple tights that suggest the local Belleville mall has a Hot Topic. With a musical here-she-comes intro reminiscent of “You’re a Mean One, Mister Grinch,” the eagerly awaited arrival of this rumored hellion is a disappointment. In fact, our first indication of this troublemaker is some graffiti reading “Beauty Sucks!” She must be some terror. Bad Cinderella, we’re told by the singing, dancing ensemble in a big, fun opening number (“beauty is our duty!,” they sing), is a hated, feared and rebellious resident of the otherwise picture-perfect storyland village of Belleville. Less nuanced in the acting department, Genao is given little help by book writer Fennell in creating an interesting, or even particularly likable, protagonist. Genao is a terrific singer, a real, modern Broadway belter with a voice that has no trouble putting across the Lloyd Webber-Zippel power ballads. Nowhere is this more evident, or more unfortunate, than in the scenes spotlighting its title character. Probably not, but Bad Cinderella, as diverting as it can often be, at other times leaves lots of space for the mind to wander. Is that stepsister’s line a wink at camp classic What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Are Cinderella’s smears of under-eye sparkles a nod to glitter rock king Marc Bolan? Identifying an artwork’s influences and/or rip-offs can be addictive. What Bad Cinderella does have is an amusing enough premise, an appealing score of songs that please in the moment, a gorgeous set design, performers that give it their all, and just enough rousing, good-natured moments to hold onto hopes that Bad Cinderella will arrive somewhere transformative before Dorothy has to return to Kansas. And though it flirts with the eccentric camp appeal of Sunset Boulevard, there’s not a step-relative who can make us forget Norma Desmond. It doesn’t have the satisfying weirdness of Cats (or any single song that can approach the heights of “Memory”), or the romance of The Phantom of the Opera, or the ear candy score of Jesus Christ Superstar. Just enough, in fact, to place it somewhere in the middle of the Lloyd Webber catalogue. Edward Everett Horton).īad Cinderella has a little of each. When done well, the smashing of tales we loved (or maybe really didn’t) as children can be enlightening (it helps to have Sondheim on your team) or cool (definitely a plus to have Emma Stone playing your villainess) or, like those old Fractured Fairy Tale cartoons, just plain funny (R.I.P. What, you’ve seen this before, maybe when it was called Wicked? Into the Woods? Six? There is no shortage of variations on the idea, and another one’s coming to Broadway complete with Britney Spears songs and a bevy of famous damsels who get wised up by Betty Friedan. If we’ve learned anything about investing during the past few months, it’s that portfolio construction really does matter. Funds with an absolute return focus tended to be better performers during this difficult period.īy the end of June, once stock markets had stabilized, the Scotia Alternative Mutual Fund Index had fallen just 2.14 per cent year to date compared to 9.7 per cent for the S&P/TSX Composite Index and a gain of 0.29 per cent for the S&P 500 (in Canadian dollars).Īll things considered, liquid alts held up well in what may be the worst economic downturn of our lives. In March, the Scotia Alternative Mutual Fund Index, which tracks about 40 Canadian liquid alt funds of various styles and investment objectives, was down 6.61 per cent while the S&P/TSX Composite Index was down 17.74 per cent and the S&P 500 fell by 8.23 percent (in Canadian dollars). So, how did they perform?īroadly, they did what they were supposed to do. It was the first real test for Canadian liquid alts. Then, the pandemic hit and stock markets around the world plummeted more than 30 per cent. The Canadian Association of Alternative Strategies & Assets and other market observers say that number could top $100-billion by 2024. In just 18 months, the liquid alts market accumulated $8-billion in AUM. Many advisors and investors were nervous about how inflated the markets had become and were looking for ways to generate better risk-adjusted returns. It turned out that 2019 was an ideal time to democratize liquid alts and make them accessible to retail investors. However, advisors in Canada couldn’t consider them for clients’ portfolios until the Canadian Securities Administrators made them available to retail investors last year. In fact, there were more than US$700-billion in liquid alt assets under management (AUM) and strategies in the U.S. These strategies have been available to Canadian institutional investors and U.S. These attributes make them valuable tools for portfolio construction. As well, some of these funds are absolute return funds for which performance is not based on whether they beat a relative benchmark. They generally aim to produce mid- to high single-digit returns, with similar volatility over a stock market cycle. The advantage for advisors and their clients is that these funds can move independently of the markets, have a low average correlation to traditional indexes and are designed to stabilize portfolios when markets drop. In short, liquid alts are mutual funds and exchange-traded funds that use alternative investment strategies – such as long-short, market neutral and managed futures, among several others – to infuse portfolios with more advanced methods of risk reduction, diversification and downside protection. As such, financial advisors should consider including liquid alts when building portfolios for their clients. But it wasn’t until the COVID-19 stock market downturn earlier this year that these products demonstrated their value in limiting downside risk. Liquid alternative investment funds, better known as liquid alts, officially became available to Canadian retail investors in Jan. Sorry to come on this strongly, especially as it's my first post. Third, if you want to piss off the smith you're visiting, this would be a good way to go about it, for reasons mentioned before. Any smith who ever missed his workpiece can attest to this. Thoughts on this already-made railroad track anvil for a beginner Glenn has Passed Away. The anvil was a little more sway-backed than I liked and had only 40 or so rebound. Second, depending on the rebound of said anvil, it is a perfect recipe for a hammer to the face (your face, not the anvil's). As you may recall, my last Craigslist anvil find was a disappointment. First of all you can damage the face of the anvil, depending on the temper, even with very good anvils (you can also damage the hammer, but that's way easier to fix, although still undesirable). Flange is 5-1/4' wide, top rail is 2-3/4' wide, Web is 5/8' thick. Forges like a dream.ģ NEVER whack an anvil with a hammer. 2 Blacksmith Railroad Track Anvil Heavy Duty Iron Rail Pieces One is 28-1/2' long and 6-1/4' tall. My 275 lbs PFP (Peddinghaus) anvil does not ring AT ALL but it does have a ~95% rebound which is about as good as it gets. If you're really interested in reading up on anvils, "Anvils in America" will tell you all you need to know.Ģ A good anvil does not have to ring. The fact that youre using an improvised coal forge doesnt. Heating it up will take a little while, but Ive heated 4' solid round before, it sat on top of the fire instead of in it, so I had to pile up coal around it to make an igloo, of sorts. 3 PR Of Different Vintage BLACKSMITH BOLT TONGS Forge & Anvil Tools. People have forge welded new faces onto 150+lb anvils before, railroad track isnt a big deal. 3 Vintage ATHA WARREN BLACKSMITH 5/8' & 1/2'TOP SWAGES. Vintage anvils can be junk too, so like with everything, buyer beware. 6' Railroad Rail Train track Steel Anvil Blacksmith Craft 10 Lbs. The stuff you buy at Harbour Freight and the like are indeed ASOs, but this by no means holds for all modern anvils. But with all due respect, as an amateur black-/bladesmith I cannot get past this load of misinformation.ġ Modern anvils from reputable brands are still cast steel (either with or without a welded-on tool steel face) or forged steel in case of Peddinghaus. I've been lurking a good while, waiting until I could contribute enough to this community with my leatherwork to come out of the shadows. If it makes a high pitched thud it is iron. If it makes a beautiful high pitched ting it is steel. Oh and to help ID a steel anvil over an iron one, give it a good whack with a hammer. However, I have been looking for a vintage anvil for some time and I commonly encounter prices not unlike the one referred above so good luck with that. This is where the section of truck leaf spring comes in. If I found a good price on one I would buy it. The next step is to make a flat surface on the top of the anvil. They are only worth to me marginally more than they are worth as scrap metal though. As in, for leatherwork and not hammer forging, the cast iron anvil will do just fine. (Anvil shaped objects) and will usually be made from cast iron which is brittle and susceptible to breakage MORE easily. I have forged on closed vices, railroad anvils, broken truck axles, old busted farm anvils, random blocks of plate steel, brand new. going to spend just as much getting this cut, ground, hardened and tempered, as you would have buying a nice used anvil on craigslist, or ebay. Modern ones being sold today are nothing more than ASOs. Railroad rail anvils often work better with the train side down. These are highly desirable among those who lust after anvils. And took me around 4 1/2 hrs, to make one small pinning anvil, not including the time painting.Vintage anvils will be made of either forged or cast steel. So it took roughly a whole work day to cut up. My track was 21" long, I had a guy cut it into 3" pieces, using a industrial electric band saw. Other than that, a train would still be using it.īy the way.your gonna need more wheels, and full face protection. Its beginning to wear out, and thats why you have it. Finally, tonight I decided to open up the process tab of the 'Task Manager' and see what process had increased cpu usage when I deleted a bunch of messages. I've tried a lot of the things (most?) suggested in this thread, to no avail. |
